Charleston’s port, manufacturing growth lures warehouse, transportation businesses

A company that provides warehouse space and logistics for those moving cargo through the Port of Charleston is expanding its presence here while a separate business that moves freight for port customers is setting up shop in the Charleston region.

Wainwright Industries/TVS Supply Chain Solutions said it will build a 212,000-square-foot facility in Hanahan to better serve industries such as forestry products — one of the State Ports Authority’s largest customers, accounting for 15 percent of the maritime agency’s cargo volume.

The new facility on North Rhett Avenue is served by CSX railroad, giving it the ability to handle rail-dependant cargo such as paper from other parts of the southeast. The company’s other location in Ladson serves the state’s growing automobile manufacturing industry.
