Port of Charleston works its biggest-ever cargo ship, more to come

The biggest cargo ship ever to tie up at the Port of Charleston came and went during a brief stay this week, but more of the seagoing behemoths are on the horizon.

The APL Yangshan arrived late Monday at the Wando Welch Terminal, the State Ports Authority announced on social media after it docked.

The 1,140-foot-long ship can carry the equivalent of 10,700 20-foot-long containers, or about 1,100 more than the port’s previous record holder.
